Yao Jie

INTERN

  • Master of Arts in Counselling (Chinese Section) at Singapore Bible College (Currently pursuing)

About Yao Jie

Yao Jie or Jan as many have come to know her, is an Intern at One Hope Centre. Originally from Shanghai, China, she chose to do her practicum at One Hope Centre for deeply personal reasons.

A relative of hers struggled with a mahjong addiction, which led to repeated borrowing of money from family members which caused years of strained relationships. The relative eventually passed away, alone at home, due to depression that had sadly gone largely unnoticed by those around him.

This experience prompted Yao Jie to reflect deeply on the importance of understanding and supporting people with behavioral addictions—and whether timely care could have changed the outcome for her distant relative.

Yao Jie also wishes to broaden her experience in the counselling field. She recognizes that addiction is a complex and specialized area and wants to deepen her professional skills through practical, hands-on learning at One Hope Centre.
